A look back in pictures!

(French version available here).

From December 10th to 12th the Dijon Exhibition & Convention Center welcomed the first edition of “The SFNano – C’Nano joint meeting 2019”, that has been jointly organized by the French Nanomedicine SocietySFNano, and the French national Competency Cluster in Nanoscience of CNRSC'Nano. The goal was to gather the scientific pluridisciplinary communities in nanoscience, nanotechnologies and nanomedicine together in order to promote interdisciplinary exchanges and stimulate the emergence of new research axes in the “nano” field.

C’Nano and SFNano boards have worked together to define the scientific topics scheduled during the congress and to identify invited plenary and keynote speakers. The C’Nano Est board and the Carnot de Bourgogne Laboratory (ICB, Université de Bourgogne/CNRS/UTBM) both localized in Dijon have played a special role in the congress organization.

This congress gathered researchers, engineers, doctorates and post-doctorates 3 days long and enabled attendees to exchange on their research works with subject experts as well as to enrich themselves with other research topics in the “nano” field in the spirit of openness and interdisciplinarity.

Despite traffic difficulties due to strike movements in France, the scientific community strongly mobilize itself and was amazingly motivated to join the congress: indeed, among 460 registrations, more than 400 academics and industrial researchers from France and abroad attended the congress to inaugurate its new version, a real success!
This massive mobilization clearly shows the high interest of the scientific community in the “nano” field in this unprecedented highly interdisciplinary meeting gathering scientific from various backgrounds: physicians, chemists, engineers, biologist, pharmacists, physicists, toxicologists, geologists, jurists, etc.

A top quality scientific program!

The scientific program included 3 plenary conferences given by world-renowned international scientists: Ashutosh CHILKOTI (Duke University, USA), Romain QUIDANT (ICREA - ICFO, Spain) and Nathalie KATSONIS (University of Twente, Netherlands).

In addition, 20 keynote speakers introduced topics addressed in the 11 parallel sessions scheduled during the congress: « Nanochemistry: synthesis & functionalization of nanosystems for bio-applications », « Nano-photonics & Nano-optics », « Nanomaterials », « Solar energy », « Nanoparticles & targeting », « Nano-objects in biological fluids », « bio-inspired nanosystems », « Nanoplastics & Nanocomposites  », « Surface, interface & nanoconfinement », « Nano for imaging, diagnosis & theranostics », « Nanoscience for cancer », « Nanosafer by design ».

Young researchers were challenged during a specific session with flash presentations. All in all, more than 140 researchers, post-doctorates and doctorates orally presented their research works on these various topics.

More than 150 posters have been presented enabling scientific discussions to be pursued beside the oral presentations.

During the closing session, 12 doctorates and post-doctorates were rewarded and received the best oral and poster presentations Prizes in various topics.

The C’Nano – SFNano 2019 PhD Thesis Prizes have also been awarded to 8 laureates based on the excellence and originality of their doctoral research works in 5 categories: “fundamental research”, “interdisciplinary research”, “applied research”, “research in nanomédicine” and “C’Nano – SFNano common Prize”. Among them, 6 laureates were present to receive their Prizes during a specific ceremony organized during the congress.

Satellite and social events

Two satellite events have also been organized: a public roundtableInnovation in nano field: is this myth or reality? “ scheduled on December 10th in the evening at CongrExpo Congress Center as well as conference courses on “Safer by design” scheduled on December 13th at ESIREM Engineer’s school.

Last, a wine tasting of local wines and a gala dinner gathering 300 participants have been organized at Château de Marsannay Castle in a very pleasant atmosphere.
